In this quick series we’re going to introduce you to a selection of top South African junior surfers who are set to compete in the Billabong Junior Series Grand Finale at Seal Point in Cape St Francis. The event is set to take place over the long weekend of 25 – 27 September.
Surfer Profile No6 – Adin Masencamp

Adin is the current U15 SA Boys Champ, but he is actually 3 x SA Champion, having won it in 2011, 2012 and 2014. He is also 2 x Springbok surfer – 2014 and 2015 – and had a cracker Billabong Junior Series event last year at Seal Point. He convincingly won the U16 division, and placed 4th in the U20 Pro Division. On top of this he was awarded the Surfer Of The Contest award.
Adin is from the Strand area and calls Caves his home break. A fast-breaking right-hand wedge that throws the odd thick little sand-bottom tube, Caves has nurtured his fast and tight surfing style. His favourite wave is JBay that he has been surfing since he was 8 years old. He is also a perennial standout at Seals, with a good affinity to the wave and to wave choice at this fickle but rippable point-break.
Adin is a natural-footer who surfs in the pocket. His surfing is fast and radical, with an arsenal of new school moves up his sleeve and a big match temperament when things get serious. He has a powerful approach and is committed when the waves get solid. His competitive record speaks for itself.
Adin has been training hard with coach Llewellyn Whittaker in preparation for the upcoming ISA World Junior Champs that takes place in United States in October.
This year will see Adin move out of his U15 division in the Billabong SA Junior Champs, but will be keen to get his first U17 title. The Billabong SA Junior Champs take place the week after the Billabong Junior Series Finals. The Billabong SA Champs will be held at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay.
