South African surfing star Bianca Buitendag reached the finals in the Roxy Pro Gold Coast earlier today before finishing runner up, her career best performance, at this 1st stop of the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP Women’s World Championship Tour at Snapper Rocks in Queensland, Australia.

Buitendag put in a convincing win over Lakey Peterson (USA) in the semi final in great 1.5 meter waves to make it into the final for the first time in only her second year competing at the top level of women’s surfing.

The 2013 ASP Rookie of the Year’s hopes of a fairytale first victory was smashed by 5 time world champion, Australian Stephanie Gilmore who took dominant win in the final.
There is no doubt that this result will be a huge confidence boost for Buitendag going into the next rounds of the tour. We’d like to wish Bianca a big congratulations on the awesome results and wish her luck for the upcoming rounds. The next event will take place in Western Australia on the 2nd April, the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.
