A powerful team of Under 20 surfers will be representing SA at the upcoming ASP World Junior Surfing Championships taking place from the 27th October to the 5th November at Joaquina Beach in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
The team consisting of two women surfers and five men surfers will be competing against surfers from another six ASP regions, namely: Europe, North and South America, Hawaii, Australasia and Japan.
The men’s team will be headed by Diran Zakarian and joined by Dylan Lightfoot, Slade Prestwich, Michael February and David van Zyl.
The woman’s team features the experienced Sarah Baum and Bianca Buitendag.
The annual surfing event is considered as a major stepping stone to a professional surfing career with previous winners including the likes of Joel Parkinson, Andy Irons, Adriano de Souza, Jordy Smith, Pauline Ado, Sally Fitzgibbons and Laura Enever amongst others.
