Alessandro Barbero Talks Ultimate X 2016

The last time we saw Italian BMX rider, Alessandro Barbero in South Africa was back in 2013. He has now returned to compete at Ultimate X 2016 this Saturday, 27th Feb, at GrandWest Casino in Cape Town.
We caught up with Alessandro to get his thoughts on coming back to SA and what we can expect from him this weekend.

We interview Alessandro Barbero about returning to South Africa to compete at Ultimate X
Welcome back to South Africa, what are you looking forward to this time round?
I feel excited like the first time, Cape Town is magic!

How much do you know about Ultimate X and what are your thoughts on the event?
I heard about the comp in 2013 and it looks like you guys know how to do it.

You have a stack of achievements under your belt, what are some of your highlights of your career?
Definitely when I got 1st Place at FISE 2010. Also I made few final at the DEW Tour and I also Won BMX Master, I’m very happy about it.

What does the sport of BMX mean to you?
Freedom.

What are your goals for Ultimate X?
Do my best, stay healthy and have a good time.

What goes through your mind when you’re riding and competing?
Stuff changes when it’s comp time, you just have to be ready. It’s like a test in school.

Do you know any of the other competitors and if so, who do you think will be your main competition?
I know pretty much all of them and everybody is good. I have no idea.

What can fans expect from you and your riding style at Ultimate X?
To see my shit I guess [laughs].

Being a park event, what are some of the bigger tricks we can expect to see from you?
360 Windshield-Wiper maybe.

What style of course suits you best and what features are your favourite to ride?
I like very compact park when you don’t have time to think and you also can find good lines.

What will a win at Ultimate X mean to you?
A win is always good [laughs].
