2021 SA Motocross Nationals Chestnut Hill Race Report

The fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross Championship took place over the weekend at Chestnut Hill in Bronkhorstspruit. Tristan Purdon was a man on a mission taking double wins in both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

Tristan Purdon dominated the field to wins in both heats, scoring the overall and extending his championship points lead. Cameron Durow, David Goosen and Jesse Wright finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in both races.

Tristan Purdon took the double win and extended his championship points lead in this class too.  Cameron Durow and David Goosen shared 2nd and 5th place heat finishes, to come 2nd and 4th overall respectively. Dalton Venter went 3-3 to claim his first ever MX2 podium in 3rd.

Grant Frerichs racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipGrant Frerichs

Grant Frerichs continued with his winning ways going 1-1 for the overall. Ian Topliss following in 2nd with Ryan Frerichs in 3rd.

Jonathan Mlimi racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipJonathan Mlimi

Jonathan Mlimi made no mistakes going 1-1 and claiming the day’s victory ahead of a charging Miguel de Waal in 2nd place. Luke Grundy rounded off the podium in 3rd.

Kayla Raaff racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipKayla Raaff

Kayla Raaff was back to her old self raced to a double victory for the overall win. Title rival, Leah Heygate finished in 2nd with Cheyenne De Lima behind in 3rd.

Neil van der Vyver racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipNeil van der Vyver

Neil van der Vyver, Emmanuel Bako and Trey Cox were split by just two points at the end of the day. This from Van der Vyver’s 3rd followed by a second race win, Bako’s two 2nd place finishes, and Cox’s opening moto win followed by a 5th.

Matthew Correia consolidated his championship lead. Title rivals Andrew Venter and Tyler Petersen shared out the 2nd places ahead of first race 3rd rider Caden Wiese and Kassim Hassim.

Blade Tilley racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipBlade Tilley

Blade Tilley and Blake Frost shared out the race wins and 2nd places to leave the top of the title chase static. Aiden Henley took both 3rd places to remain 3rd in the championship.

Aiden Retief racing the fifth round of the 2021 South African National Motocross ChampionshipAiden Retief

Aiden Retief finished 4-1 to claim the win ahead of Rayden Woolls’ 2-2 finish. Trenton Kretzmann went 1-4 for 3rd overall. This resulting in a three-way draw in points.
