2019 SA Motocross Nationals Zone 7 Race Report

Zone 7 in Cape Town greeted the 2nd Round on the 2019 TRP Distributors South African National Motocross Championship, where fans were treated to exciting racing on the testing sandy and rutted track

In the MX1 Class Maddy Malan put on an incredible performance with a dominant win in Heat 1. In Heat 2 he dropped his machine, letting Lloyd Vercueil sneak into the lead – Malan soon got back into the lead only to be slowed by a flat tyre leaving Vercueil to take the second win and overall for the day.

The punctured Malan managed to hold off Tristan Purdon to finish in 2nd for the day and retain the points lead. Purdon, Royce Griffin, David Goosen and Ash Thixton closed off the MX1 top six for the day.

Anthony Raynard stamped his authority in the MX2 Class – ahead of Kerim Fitz-Gerald, Nick Adams and Josh Mlimi in Heat 1. In heat 2 Mlimi made Raynard work for the win with Fitz-Gerald and Nick Adams in tow. In the end it was Raynard with the win, Kerim Fitz-Gerald in 2nd and Josh Mlimi in 3rd.

Tyson Engelbrecht rode to victory in the MX3 Class of Ian Topliss in 2nd and Wyatt Avis in 3rd.
Kayla Raaff continued her dominance in the Ladies division with another two wins to her name. Leah Heygate and Natasha Rugani rounded off the podium in 2nd and 3rd.

Dalton Venter dominated the 125cc High School class going 1-1 for the overall. Aviv Orland finish in 2nd with the hard charging Jonathan Mlimi taking 3rd.

Stav Orland was unstoppable in the big wheel 85cc Pro Mini races, while Emmanuel Bako was similarly unbeaten in the 85cc Juniors.

Niel van der Vyver continued his domination in the 65cc class. Ethan Williamson went 1-2 for the overall in the 50cc class.
