The fourth round of the 2019 TRP Distributors South African National Motocross Championship thrilled fans at Dirt Bronco in Krugersdorp, Gauteng on Saturday with bar-to-bar racing and championship tussles throughout the day.
In the premier MX1 Class, David Goosen took the lead in Heat 1 and looked to be in control of the race until a hard charging Maddy Malan passed him late in the race to take the heat win. Tristan Purdon ended in 3rd while championship contender, Lloyd Vercueil limped across the line in 10th after a crash earlier in the race.

Heat 2 saw Goosen again grab the lead from the start, this time he dominated the race from start to finish to take the overall for the day. A battling Purdon and Malan would finish in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Vercueil managed to salvage a 4th place, which would put hime in 7th for the day. Jayden Ashwell’s 5-5 finish saw him take 4th for the day.
Maddy Malan’s 2nd place overall for the day sees him extend his championship points lead.

In the MX2 Class Josh Mlimi blasted into the lead in Heat 1 and pulled away from the pack, a technical issue with his throttle later in the race saw him loose speed. Anthony Raynard put on an impressive performance to come from behind and take the lead. Slade Smith finished in 3rd with Kerim Fitz-Gerald in 4th and Jesse Wright in 5th.

Heat 2 saw another holeshot from Mlimi to take the lead but this time fatigue would get the better of him as he lost places during the race to finish in 4th and 4th overall for the day. It was good to see Fitz-Gerald on form again as he took the race win and secured 2nd for the day. Raynard’s 3rd place finish saw him take top honours for the day. Smith put together a good race to finish in 2nd and claim 3rd overall.

+30 rider Tyson Engelbrecht took the opening MX3 race from +40 winner Ian Topliss, +30 man Dwayne Kleynhans and +40 duo Brett Bircher and Craig Kruger. Topliss took one for the old men with the Heat 2 win over younger men Kleynhans and Engelbecht, Bircher and Kruger.

Kayla Raaff continued her domination of the Ladies Class with two more wins as Megan Jonker bounced back from a year of recuperation from injury with a 2nd overall by sharing 2nd and 3rd place finishes with Natasha Rugani.

In 125 Highschool Class Dalton Venter continued on his winning ways in with a dominant double win performance over Arnu Saaiman in both races. Miguel de Waal, back from injury, took and impressive 3rd place in Heat 1 but a mechanical in Heat 2 would put him out of contention finishing in 12th for the day. Christiaan Cilliers’ 4-3 finish would see him round out the podium for the day.

Leonard du Toit took the win in the 85cc Pro Mini class followed by Blake Young in 2nd and Dylan Kirk in 3rd.

James Thompson took 85cc Juniors honours from Emmanuel Bako and Timo Maximo who finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Championship leader Neil van der Vyver returned to winning ways to extend his 65cc title advantage with a couple of race victories ahead of Jordan Van Wyk and Trey Cox.

Christian Berrington-Smith sped to two 50cc wins ahead of Jake van Schoor’s 2-3 finish for 2nd and Ethan Williamson’s 6-2 finish for 3rd.
