2018 SupaDrift Series Round 6 Drift Report

The Final Round of the 2018 SupaDrift Series took place at Carnival City over the weekend and saw the country’s top drifting driver’s battle it out for top honours and championship podium positions.

Jason Webb came into the final round with a massive 101 point lead over Gavin Puren, Jim Mc Farlane, Zanil Satar and Shane Gutzeit, but that didn’t mean he was secured for the number one spot, as anything could happen before qualifying.

Proceedings got underway with the Pro1 division where Trevor Puren battled against Mellisa Nell and took the win.

In the Top 8 of the Pro division, Zanil Satar battled Armand Bronkhorst, with a really tight battle and Armand knocking himself out in his lead run by taking out the front clipping point, handing the win to Zanil. Adam Shefer faced Jason Webb, and was the battle of the day as both drivers stuck to each resulting in the closest tandem runs of the day. Eric van Eyssen battled Jim Mc Farlane, with Eric losing his momentum and Jim taking the win. Gavin Puren battled Zein Hussein, and once again Zein’s gremlins popped up and Gavin took the win.

The Top 4 would see Zanil Satar go up against Jason Webb, with a strong start to the run Jason stuck to the side of Zanil all the way to the final rear zone where Zanil overshot the drift line and lost power forcing Jason to dive into the back of his car, but that didn’t stop Jason from finishing his run. Unfortunately the damage to Zanil’s car was too much for him to do a chase run and Jason took the win.
Gavin Puren faced off against Jim Mc Farlane, with both drivers putting down great runs, Gavin out-drifted Jim to take the win. With Zanil out and unable to compete in the 3rd place battle, Jim claimed it.

The Final battle took place between Gavin Puren and Jason Webb. Jason would do the lead, while Gavin would give chase, and with both drivers hungry for the win, Gavin initiated side by side with Jason as they went into the first corner. Gavin pushed too hard and made contact with Jason, unfortunately causing Gavin’s drive shaft to snap and puncher his fuel tank, forcing him to retire. Jason Webb took the win and with a near perfect season, five wins from six races, was crowned the 2018 SupaDrift Series champion.
