2017 Dustin Rudman Invitational Round 3

The third and final round of the Dustin Rudman Invitational Enduro and Downhill MTB event of the year took place at the trusty Helderkruin Hill, with an amazing turnout of 114 riders participating. This event is fast becoming one of the most anticipated races within the Gauteng region, and starting to attract a few out of towners.

Saturday consisted of a day for practice for all riders, and with the occasional raindrops, the track was extremely “grippy”. With the smiles on people’s faces you could see that everyone was just having a great time. Running a different track than the past races competitors had something different in store with faster paced runs.

Having rained the previous night, a well-watered track was expected on Sunday’s race day, but clearly nature decided otherwise. Temperatures reaching wimpy coffee levels throughout the day, dried out the track making it loose, and made morning practice even more important for dialing in lines. With practice complete race runs commenced. First runs completed for everyone, a quick lunch break then straight to second runs. All riders itching and hoping to better their first runs and better their overall placings.

Frank Meyer put down a blistering first run to keep everyone at bay and took the win in the Downhill Men category and the overall for the day with a time of (1:12.451). Beanie Thies took the Ladies Downhill win and the overall with a cracking time of (1:34.640)

The classic Huck-to-Flat competition, and newly added Bunny-Hop Challenge ended off the day before prizes and podiums announced. We now wait in anticipation for the next season’s Dustin Rudman Invitationals.
