Round 3 of the 2016 SupaDrft Series took place over the weekend at the infamous Dezzi Raceway in KZN. The rollercoaster style circuit made for exciting drifting action as the series now gathers momentum into the season.

32 drivers put their skills to the test during qualifying on the demanding track that quickly separated those that could and those that were too scared, into the to 16. Spins and straight-line errors would prematurely end the day for some. Brendan Puren stood out during qualifying securing the 6th spot and Driver of the Day.

The Top 16 saw some great battles, namely the battle between Gavin Puren and Brendan Puren with Brendan taking the win by a single point. Then the first round battle between Zein Hussein and Paolo Gouveia with Hussein narrowly pipping Gouveia and emerging victorious, securing a spot in the Final 8. Richat Kahn beat Mathys Naude for a spot in the Final 8 and faced Shane Gutzeit. Unfortunately Kahn did not rejoin and gave Gutzeit an easy pass to the Final 4. An OMT was called in the Wade Van Zummeren vs Hussein battle but a damaged vehicle of Van Zummeren ended his day and sent Hussein to the Semifinals.

The Semifinals saw Shane Gutzeit paired with George Myburgh and Zein Hussein paired with Jim Mc Farlane. After their first pass, Myburgh called for a 5 minute time-out for repairs but ran out of time handing Gutzeit the transfer to the final. Hussein spun out in the first pass placing Mc Farlane in the perfect position for the battle win and transfer to the final.

Shane Gutzeit vs Jim Mc Farlane in the Final, and what a final it was. Precision drifting by both drivers transpired into one of the best runs of the day. With desire to win and more controlled aggression with closer proximity to Gutzeit it was an easy call. Jim Mc Farlane claimed victory.
