The first round of the 2016 SupaDrift Series is in the books. Redstar Raceway kicked off the year and played host to the exciting sideways drifting action that fans have come accustomed to.

The 33 strong driver field pulled out all the stops to impress the judges. Mechanical problems saw Carl Werner and Mikey Skelton unable to qualify. The technical track caught out a few drivers seeing side-skirts and bumpers lost, and a lot of grass removed from the side of the track. After qualifying the Final 16 stood tall.

Drivers were on form and made life difficult for the judges during the tandem elimination rounds. Sean February put on an impressive performance beating Zanil Satar and Des Gutzeit but eventually succumbed to mechanical failure.

After qualifying 11th, Gavin Puren claimed 2nd place and Driver of the Day. Richat Kahn, the 2015 first round winner, had to settle for 3rd after beating our Zanil Satar. Shane Gutzeit was a man on a mission and took his first win of the season, and is the first driver to have his name engraved on the Riaz Alibhai Memorial trophy.
