2016 SA Motocross Nationals Zone 7 Race Report

Overcast Cape Town weather greeted Round 2 of the 2016 Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship at Zone 7. Rainfall earlier in the week and some rainfall towards the end of practice left the track in perfect, tacky condition and had competitors rearing to race.

Spectators were treated to a day of exciting bar to bar racing. Cape Town local, and fan favourite, Anthony Raynard was on form and took the win in both heats of the MX2 class for the overall. Neville Bradshaw and Tristan Purdon finished off the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Red Bull KTM teammates Kerim Fitz-Gerald and Joshua Mlimi finished in 4th and 5th.

In the MX1 class Anthony Raynard was on fire again but it was not enough to hold off the hard charging points leader Neville Bradshaw, who took the top spot of the podium. Raynard had to settle for 2nd place while Sacha Naude claimed 3rd. Kerim Fitz-Gerald took home 4th and David Goosen 5th.

Ryan Hunt shook things up on the MX3 class and put an end to Ian Topliss’ winning streak with an excellent performance taking the overall. Topliss finished in 2nd and Alec Combrink in 3rd.

Brittany Cuthbert again dominated the Ladies Division adding to her points lead. Nanda Clowes followed in 2nd and Leah Heygate in 3rd.

Round 3 of the Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship heads to Bloemfontien on 28 May at the BORC MX track.
