2016 SA Motocross Nationals BORC Race Report

A massive turn out met Round 3 of the 2016 Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship, which took place at the BORC Temp MX Circuit in Bloemfontein over the weekend, 28 May. An exciting and well-maintained track made for some of the best racing seen this season.

The MX2 class provided intense bar-to-bar racing especially in the second heat where hometown rider, Johan Vogelesang got the holeshot and lead for a few laps. Anthony Raynard then took the lead before a fast paced Tristan Purdon came out of nowhere to take the front position. Purdon looked to be heading for victory but Kerim Fitz-Gerald got passed on the outside on one of the last corners for the win. Fitz-Gerald’s win in both moto’s saw him take the overall. Purdon finished in 2nd and Raynard in 3rd. Raynard still hold the points lead going into Round 4.

Kerim Fitz-Gerald dominated the MX1 division taking the win in both heats for a convincing overall. Anthony Raynard put on a hard charge but it wasn’t enough and he had to settle for 3rd. Sasha Naude was on good form and finished in 2nd for the day. Raynard’s 3rd place finish has put him in the points lead ahead on Neville Bradshaw.

In the MX3 class it was Ian Topliss back out front taking the win in both heats. Ryan Hunt and Brett Bircher were in close chase throughout the races but settled for 2nd and 3rd respectively.

It was all about Brittany Cuthbert in the MX Ladies division who stayed out front all day. Toni Jardine put on an impressive performance and finished in 2nd with Nanda Clowes taking the 3rd spot.

Marco De Vrye looked on form in the 125 MX High School division and led most of the second heat with ease but finished in 3rd overall for the day. Slade Smith’s smooth riding saw him shoot into the lead and take the overall for the day. Keegan Hickson-Mahony took the 2nd step of the podium.

Round 4 of the 2016 Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship takes place on 2 July and Syringa MX Park in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg.
