The 7th round of the 2015 SupaDrift Series took place at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mahikeng over the weekend. After a months break from competition the competitors were ready to burn rubber and show off their drifting skills.
After qualification into the Top 16, the following drivers took the wins in their various heats to move through to the Top 8: Jason Webb, Alex Simons, Jim McFarlane, Shane Gutzeit, Wade van Zummeren, George Myburgh, Otto Graven and Mikey Skelton.
Jason Webb, Jim McFarlane, Mikey Skelton and Wade van Zummeren won their respective heats in the Top 8 to move onto the Semi Finals. It was McFarlane vs Webb and Skelton vs Van Zummeren with some tight battles and close quarter drifting. In the end it would be Webb and Van Zummeren going for the number 1 spot and Skelton vs McFarlane for 3rd.
A first for SupaDrift history, McFarlane and Skelton faced each other in what was one of the closest battles of the day. Run One saw both drivers score zero with McFarlane knocking a clipping point and Skelton spinning out. In Run Two McFarlane pushed a bit too hard in the last corner and ran off the line giving the win and 3rd place position to Skelton.
Unfortunately drifting fans in Mahikeng didn’t get to see the final they had hoped as Van Zummeren called for a 5 Minutes to repair a fuel pump issue but ran out of time as was disqualified. This gave the overall to Webb.
