The Gauteng Motor Fest played host to the 5th round of the 2015 SupaDrift Series which saw the country’s best drivers compete for valuable season points. 34 drivers put on some of the best drifting action seen this year.

Joey Govender put in an impressive performance making it into the top 16 qualifier for the first time, and later received the Driver of the Day award. Jason Webb set the tone for the weekend by qualifying 1st and setting the bar high, he was closely chased by Shane Gutzeit and Paulo Gouveia.

In the tandems Jason Webb outclassed JP van der Spuy. Gavin Puren couldn’t match George Myburgh’s immense angles, Dez Gutzeit made things look easy against Alex Simon and Zein Hussein beat Jean Mare, all moving into the Top 8’s. A no show at the start by Mikey Skelton, due to mechanical problems, saw Jim McFarlane handed the qualifying spot. A huge battle took place between Wade van Zummerun and Richat Khan in their Top 16 run but it was Van Zummerun who came out on top after a OMT was called.

Tight drifting was the order of the day in the Top 8’s. A superb drive by Jason Webb saw him move into the semifinal, along with Shane Gutzeit, Zein Hussien and Paulo Gouveia.

The Top 4 were set and all in the fight for the 2015 championship. Jason Webb was up against Zein Hussein and walked away with top honours moving into the final. Shane Gutzeit left Paulo Gouveia standing when Gouveia made a mistake costing him the semi.

Jason Webb went on to beat Shane Gutzeit in the final with his tight and close proximity drifting. Paolo Gouveia claimed 3rd overall for the day.
