The 2015 AutoTrader SupaDrift Series kicked off to a roaring start last weekend (28 February) at Red Star Raceway. Fans were treated to insane drifting action which took place for the first time in Mpumalanga.

Newcomer Richat Kan entered as a true dark horse but shook the field from the start, advancing to the quarter finals where he faced former SupaDrift champion Jason Webb. Kan beat Webb to move through to the finals against Shane Gutzeit.

Both drivers made errors in their final runs with Kan clipping a cone and Gutzeit making a straight line error. This forced a tie breaking run where Gutzeit clipped the same cone Kan did previously. Kan took the overall win and in the first international driver to win a SupaDrift Series round. Gutzeit had to settle for 2nd while Jean Mare finished in 3rd place.

2014 Champ Wade van Zummeren debuted a first build of its kind in SA – a R35 GTR poered Nissan R34 Skyline. Unfortunate engine problems forcer Van Zummeren to retire. The unexpected podium finishes by Kan and Mare have definitely pu a spanner in the works and set the tone for what is going to be an exciting drifting season.

With stop 1 of 8 in the books the driver will now head to Kimberley on the 4th and 5th April for SupaDrift Series 02 at the Monster Mob Raceway. Sponsors include AutoTrader, Chevrolet, Achilles Tyres, Turn 1 Wheels, Speed and Sound Magazine, Liqui-Moly, Red Bull, GoPro, GreenSky and Jonnesway.
