2015 JBay Open Wrap Up

It was a dramatic end to the 2015 JBay Open with the shark incident with Mick Fanning during the opening stages of his final against Julian Wilson calling an end to competition.

The scene unfolded on the live feed as the Australian fought off the animal and began to swim back to shore. Wilson paddled over to assist. The safety team arrived in seconds and both surfers were picked up by jetskis.

Applying to the rules, the WSL awarded both finalists equal 2nd place and 8 000 points. The prize money was split between them seeing each surfer take home $70 000. The results see Fanning move up to 2nd in the ranking and Wilson to 3rd.

Adrian Buchan faced Wilson in the opening semifinal, Julian Wilson advanced to the final thanks to his opening high score leaving Buchan in 3rd place in the event.

The second semi final saw Mick Fanning go up against Kelly Slater. Fanning’s two 8 point rides secured him the spot in the final.
