2014 Billabong SA Grommet Games Results

The 2014 Billabong SA Grommet Games were won by the Western Province surfing team this past weekend at Pollock Beach in PE. This is the 3rd year in a row that the team has won the contest and the Mandela Bay Trophy. The Eastern Province followed in 2nd place with KZN Central finishing in 3rd.

The premier entry level inter provincial tournament saw over 100 entrants take part in the unique and 22 year old event. Western Province also scored themselves the Tag Team Trophy while Boland, despite only finishing in 5th, won the Team Sprit Award for their display of the best team spirit during the event.

Nate Colby of KZN Central was the youngest winner in the individual surfing category winning the U8 division. Kyra Bennie of Western Province won the U10 Final, Nathan Splading of KZN Central and Kelly Fenton of Eastern Province won the U12 Boys and Girls divisions. Nathan Splading was also awarded Surfer of the Contest.

The U14 Boys title was won by Luke Slijpen of Western Province and the Girls title taken by Courtney Sim of KZN Central. Jaro Conradie Phiri of Western Province took home the U16 Boys win with Taghiti Gericke of Southern Cape taking the U16 Girls win.

Luke Snyman and Courtney Sim won the Von Zipper Nest Manoeuvre Awards. Kyre Bennie achieved the Highest Wave Score and won a new Surfboard. The Sportsmanship Award went to Patience Schoeman.
