2013 CASA Cable Wake Tour Stop 3 Review

Stop 3 of the 2013 CASA Cable Wakeboarding and Wakeskating Tour took place this past weekend at StokeCity Wakepark in Midrand, JHB. The weekend saw SA’s top riders compete against each other for top honours putting everything on the line over a variety of kickers and rails. Qualifiers went down on the Saturday and the finals on the Sunday in what was an international standard event.

The Novice division proved that the sport is growing quickly with a whole bunch of new faces competing. Nikolai Coetzee entered his first competition after only riding for less than a year which saw the 11 year old take 2nd place overall. Claus Hachmann scored 3rd place and Tristan Wotton put on an impressive display to take the overall win.

The always exciting Wakeskating division proved to be to be spectacular with riders landing technical flat water and rail tricks. Matti Buys took the 1st place step ahead of Darren Turner in 2nd and Bryan Loggenberg in 3rd.

Kaylib Louw impressed by moving up from the Amateur division to compete against the pro’s and landed himself in 3rd place. Craig Eygenberger put everything he had on the line but it wasn’t enough to beat the winner Jason Colborn. Craig had to settle for 2nd place.

In the Ladies division, Cape Town riders dominated and took two steps of the podium. Bryanna Motepe finished in a respectable 2rd overall. Melissa Colborne and Candice Bacon battled it out during the qualifiers but in the final it was Melissa’s smooth and stylish riding that earned her the win and put Candice into 3rd place.

The Junior Men’s division was packed full of talent and saw the young guys push their riding skills to the limit. Jeanu du Plooy took the overall ahead of Marius Labuschagne in 2nd and Jacques Labuschagne in 3rd. These up and coming pro’s are really progressing fast which makes for good competition in the future.
