Vodacom In The City 2013

Friday night’s Vodacom In The City was one unbelievable night that saw a sea of 11 000 screaming Indie rock fans wanting more at Mary Fitzgerald Square in downtown Joburg. Fans were treated to a night of amazing live performances which kicked off with SA’s very own Al Bairre taking to the stage.

Al Bairre won the Vodacom “Open the City” competition and with the electric performance they put on, it’s no surprise why. This up and coming SA band definitely gained a whole bunch of new fans on Friday night and we can’t wait to see more from them in the future.

alt-J were the first international band to take the stage. Fans had waited in anticipation for the Indie rock group and they did not disappoint. With the crowds holding up the signature triangle symbol with their hands and singing along to popular singles like “Tesselete” even overpowering the band, was a sight to see.

Swedish rockers, The Hives, dressed the part and put on a performance that will not be forgotten. The band put on one hell of a show and not only performed crowd favourites, “Go Right Ahead” and “Walk Idiot Walk” but also interacted with the fans making their performance that much more amazing.

Skunk Anansie finally made their way back to SA and wow! Lead singer, Skin took to the stage and blew minds from the get go. Even after all these years the band is tighter than ever and Skin’s voice is unbelievable and powerful, captivating the masses in awe. The performance even saw Skin crowd surf from the stage all the way to the people standing at the back and back to the stage. Without a doubt one of the best performances SA has ever seen.

German DJ Boys Noize was the final act of the evening and closed off the festival with insane EDM beats, stomping until the close of what was one awesome and pleasing night out.

Vodacom In the City did not disappoint, besides the awesome performances that we were treated to, it was easy to get drinks at the ample spaced 140m bar with plenty of bar tenders. The free WiFi and the Jose Cuervo drinking holes were a hit. Thank you Seed Experiences and Vodacom, we cannot wait for the 2014 installment.
