The 2020 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup season finally kicked off at the weekend with a double-header round in Maribor, Slovenia. Round 2 started with qualifying on Saturday (17 October) and race runs on Sunday (18 October) and saw riders dealing with a slightly different and dryer track.
The Men’s Race was a close battle between the top contenders with just 1 second separating the top five. Loris Vergier put on a stellar display to take the back-to-back World Cup win with a time of 3:07.771. Loic Bruni, who was the last rider down the hill, was on par with Vergier’s run and crossed the line just 0.057 seconds back to take 2nd place. The podium was rounded off with Matt Walker in 3rd with a 3:08.174, Finn Iles in 4th with a 3:08.634, and Troy Brosnan in 5th with a 3:08.787.

In the Women’s Race Tracey Hannah went into the lead with a time of 3:47.477, however had no time to get comfortable on the hot seat as Marine Cabirou posted a time of 3:40.501, that would to put her into 2nd overall. Nina Hoffmann put the pressure on as she descended down to the finish, crossing the line with a time of 3:38.602 to take her first World Cup win. Myriam Nicole looked to challenge the time of Hoffmann but mistakes and a crash in her run saw her finish in 4th place with a time of 3:44.677. Eleanora Farina went one better than Friday to take 3rd with a time of 3:42.814.
