The last time we chatted with Prime Circle was when they released “Let The Night In” in 2014. The band has just returned from Europe and we decided to have a quick catch up ahead of their 2-hour set at Scarlet Ribbon in Greenstone, JHB this weekend.

How has 2015 been treating Prime Circle this far?
Really well, we’ve been touring our new album ” Let The Night In” all over South Africa and Europe with an amazing response. We’ve also started working on new material and have some huge events that we will unveil later in the New Year.
What have some of your highlights of the year been?
It’s always going to come down to shows for us, playing the new album and hearing people sing them back. Also playing at some of the European festivals was a great highlight, seeing new crowds enjoying our new stuff is mind blowing.
Between gigs and tours, what else has the band been up to?
We all keep pretty busy as we are managing ourselves locally in South Africa, so there’s always something to do. Besides that Dale (drummer) works in his studio, and I am involved in scoring with House of Machines for an up coming film that should be out next year. We also did a Castle Lager collaboration with ProKid called “Bring Us Together” which is receiving great feedback and airplay.
We last interviewed you when you released Let The Night In. In your opinion, how has the band evolved at all since that release?
We have been looking at our performances with much bigger eyes, we want to push what we do on stage even further. We have been missing some new heavier tracks so our next release will definitely have some punchier songs.
What did Let The Night In do for Prime Circle and its band members?
It opened up a lot more doors for us, mind the pun. We definitely saw a bigger interest internationally with the new album, we believe it is the best sounding album as far as mix and mastering that we have ever done and we love the songs as if they were our kids. I think ‘Let The Night In’ has set a broader mindset to what we do musically in the band.
When can SA expect another album from Prime Circle?
We are looking at a new album in about a year. We’ve been slowly starting to write again so let’s see what happens.
How did your upcoming gig at Scarlet Ribbon come about?
We have played there before for our 13th birthday bash, we love the venue and have always wanted to return, so we’re going back and going to lift the standard of our previous show. It’s one we are looking forward to.
What are you looking forward to most about this gig and how do you think it will differ from some of your others?
Even though it is a biggish venue it still feels pretty intimate, we’re going to play for 2 hours and a bit plus we’ll perform songs from all our albums, so whatever album you like there will be something for everyone. We also just returned from Europe so the band is feeling strong and ready.
What’s next for Prime Circle and how would you like to play 2015 out?
We are going to end 2015 with a bang. We have a national tour coming up all around SA so see you all out there.
