Hot off winning the Men’s division at the 2022 Street Lines Skate Tournament, we caught up with Moses Adams to get his take on the day and the contest itself.
Full name: Gavin “Moses” Adams
Age: 31
Hometown: Cape Town
Years skating: 24 years
Sponsors: DC Shoes, KFD, Killer and Raion
How would you best sum up the 2022 Street Lines Skate Tournament?
The tournament was very well organised with the formats.
What was your highlight of the day and why?
How everyone is progressing so fast, it reminds me of when I was young. It felt good and took me back to the young days.
How does the Thrashers Skatepark suit your style of skating?
I love how everything is spaced out in the park with lots of different options to get different lines in.
Coming into the contest, what were your expectations and were they reached?
My experience wasn’t reached to my full potential because I know I can do much better.
What does it mean to you to have finished 1st in the Men’s division?
Coming into the contest I didn’t expect to win. I told myself that morning while looking at myself in the bathroom mirror “ I can do this and I’m not going home empty handed, for my baby boy Leo”.
Which skaters impressed you the most on the day?
Definitely Jamie de Villiers, Khule Ngubane, Marci Rodrigues, Alan Marola and more.
What would you like to see included into the next Street Lines Skate Tournament?
More skaters, and more people pushing the event across the country to expand the event, so more youngsters can compete in the event.
What do you feel an event like Street Lines does for Skateboarding in South Africa and where would you like to see it go?
I can see it moving up on a much bigger scale and really push skateboarding to the next level, especially for the next up-and-coming generation.
What’s next for Moses Adams?
To do best in the Shred contest coming up on the 29th (October), and I’m busy filming a new video part at the same time.
Any shout-outs?
Thank you for the Street Lines Skate Tournament, to everyone for making it possible and letting skateboarders from different parts of the country come together for skateboarding.
