Durban based singer songwriter Majozi has propelled himself in the South African music industry with the success of his single, The River. The 30th March 2015 will see the release of his official debut EP entitled Mountains. We caught up with the humbled musician to chat about his career this far and the upcoming EP.

Give us the inside story into who Majozi is and what has led you to where you are now?
I love God, people and music. I am very insecure individual who is luckily enough to have awesome friends who support and believe in me, that and divine intervention has led me to where I am now.
You must be super excited about your debut EP which is about to drop. What goes through your mind when you think of this achievement?
I am so excited. I’m so grateful that I got to work with some of the best producers and writers in the country, and that I’m with a label that fully believes in me. It’s pretty crazy for me.
Where do you find your inspiration from when it comes to writing songs?
My faith is my biggest inspiration. I write mostly about life, love and everything in between, but because I’m so passionate about my faith it often bleeds through into my song writing.
Your single, The River, has had massive airplay and has become a well known track among South Africans. What do you think is the factor that makes this song so successful?
Honestly I’m not sure. It might have to do with the fact that the song is an anthem of hope. Everyone likes to know that there is still hope, even beyond their control.
What can fans expect from the music on your upcoming EP?
Except something a little different from my previous EP. It has a more dancey element to it, so bring out your dancing shoes.
How many tracks will be of the EP?
6 Tracks.
Which tracks are you most proud of, and why?
Probably Knock me down, and Darling, because they have the most of me in them. Not intentionally, it just came out like that. I only realised it way after I wrote the songs.
You opened for the Lumineers last year. What was that experience like and what do you think it has done for your career?
It was the most amazing experience of my life. I’m so grateful that I got to be a part of it and meet them. The whole experience has really made me think about the bigger picture and how far I want to go with my career. I’m really looking forward to taking some risk and having a little faith that it will pay off.
What goals do you have for your career in the music industry?
Someone once said that “If your dreams don’t scare you, then they aren’t big enough”. That’s pretty much me, I have big dreams about winning Grammy’s and writing the best songs ever, and reaching a lot of people and showing them some hope. I’m so far from that now, and I know on my own that’s pretty much impossible, because I’m honestly not that good, but with God anything is possible, and I have a pretty awesome team of friends who support me. So I for now I’ll take blind steps in faith, and see what happens.
What’s next for Majozi?
