Facing the Gallows have just released their brand new single and music video for “Filth”. This single is taken from new material the band is producing for a new album which is expected to release end 2015/ early 2016. Watch the music video and check out our interview with FTG about it, and more:
What has FTG been up to this far in 2015?
So far we have been writing loads of new material, filmed and edited a music video ourselves, and are hoping to release a new album, but time will tell.
What are you looking forward to during the rest of 2015?
Oppikoppi have offered us an amazing slot at this years festival, we are flippin excited for it, and we are putting in some extra work to build up a killer set. Towards the end of the year we will probably be hitting another tour to Durban as well.
Tell us about the new album you are busy recording, and when is it expected to be released?
We are all really excited about the new material. Since James has joined the band, the songs we are writing are sounding much bigger and more epic. We were expecting to release by the end of 2015, but I think time may push us to early next year. Though we are at a stage where we are the most productive we have ever been as a band.
Today sees the release of the Filth music video, a single that’ll feature on the new album. Does it give some insight into what to expect on the new album?
I think ‘Filth’ feels like a slightly different track to the rest, with clean singing and bouncy riffs. The newer songs are a bit heavier and faster!
Where does the inspiration for Filth come from, what is the single about and does it have any message?
Bryan enjoys writing songs and lyrics around concepts and building them up. Filth is based on everything that is wrong with people (for example crime, poverty, violence) and the rest of us standing by and watching it all happen.
How long did it take to complete the music video, from the idea to the final product?
The music video took us about 2 or 3 months from start to completion. The hardest part was securing a safe location to shoot at.
How was the idea for the music video born?
Loads of brainstorming with the band and Bryan coming up with ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ ideas.
Take us through the video, explaining the concept and scenes?
The storyline of the video starts off with the main character washing his hands and leaving his house. You don’t really see the characters face as he is supposed to be an impersonal character reflecting anyone. The first incident he witnesses is a couple fighting and being aggressive. He then makes his way towards a bottle store bumping into a beggar on the way. Inside the bottle store, our character sees a guy stealing right in front of him and then leaves. He lastly then makes his way through town and witnesses a gang fight. In all of the situations our character is seeing what is happening right in front of his eyes but chooses to ignore them. This is where Bryan’s lyrics swing the concept towards the end of the song, and the character is seen digging his own grave for not wanting change in the world he lives in.
What reaction are you hoping your fans will have to the video?
We’re hoping people enjoy the song and the video and see this as a step for us towards writing better songs and developing better content. Hopefully people will want to come to Oppikoppi 2015 to watch this song live!
Will you be releasing any other singles from the new album before it finally releases?
The plan is… YES.
Any title for the album yet?
We are still working on the title, but we do have a concept for the album which we are working on. It is a little hard to give info on this at the moment, but stay tuned!
