Facing the Gallows Avarice Listening Session and Interview

When its comes to heavy and hard hitting South African Music, Facing the Gallows is at the top of their game. A band who rock thousands of moshpits all over the country and have done so for a number of years. FTG have just dropped one of their new tracks called Avarice for us to listen to and to get us amped for their new album which is set to release in October…which we cannot wait for! We got hold of band members Bryan Binneman and Ricki Allemann to interview them about the new track and the new album.

See what they had to say while listening to the killer new track here:

You have just dropped your new track called Avarice and in true FTG style, it rocks hard. Tell us about the track and the name?
Ricki: Bryan can tell you more about the lyrical side. As far as I know it’s about how you don’t need cash to be happy. I don’t know, I just play guitar. Musically, I think it’s a balls in your face track to get people amped on their day. Every day!
Bryan: The track is called ‘Avarice’, which pretty much translates to extreme greed, I wanted something that could convey the message but not sound too cheesy and avarice just stood out.

What is the track about and where did the inspiration to write it come from?
Ricki: Once again, guitar-ally, that opening riff just popped into of my head somehow. Together we crafted it to what it is now. I couldn’t be happier. We were looking for something power, a nice driving sound to take you through the song.
Bryan: It’s basically about how we don’t need all the wealth in the world in order to be happy, people who are unfortunate are way more happy than most. When I look at the poverty in SA, I see people smiling still, all the time, why is that? That’s what this song is about.

How long have you been working on this track and what does it mean to you?
Ricki: We started tracking this in November last year. So it was done for a while. It’s one of my favourites, usually the set opener which gets everyone moving and amped for more.
Bryan: Lyrically I hope the song can convey a message to people, If it does, then I’ve achieved something more that will mean a lot.

“Moshpits everywhere you go. Shopping centers, hospitals, offices, churches, prisons, your mom’s house. Moshpits everywhere”

Which part of the track do you like the best and why?
Ricki: The intro. When Vic’s drum fill kicks in, say goodbye to your nuts. Vic is a little monster on the kit!
Bryan: The middle breakdown at 1:50.

What part of the track was the hardest to get right and how long did it take to record?
Ricki: Probably the intro riff again. It moves back and forth from high up on the fretboard all the way back to the bottom. It took a good few takes but I think we nailed it…did we?
Bryan: I would say the last breakdown, especially when it came to writing it, and pre-recording it, we were unsure of the time signature at first, but Vic is really good with that kind of thing.

We are expecting an album from FTG, when will it be ready for release?
Ricki: The beginning of October. We should have everything back by the end of the week, then it’s off to print.
Bryan: I’m gonna say at the beginning of October.

How many tracks will feature on the album?
Ricki: As it stands there are 8. More of an “EP”. But longer. Not an album, not an EP. It’s a thing with music on it.
Bryan: There’s 8 tracks.

What can fans expect from the new album once its released?
Ricki: Moshpits everywhere you go. Shopping centres, hospitals, offices, churches, prisons, your mom’s house. Moshpits everywhere!
Bryan: Tour, Tour, Tour, Video, Tour.

Any shout outs?
Ricki: Yeah! To you, LW Mag. Also to all the team that were involved in making this happen. Richard, Josh, Arron, you dudes are a stellar bunch of guys to work with.
Bryan: Just wanna give a shout out to LW Mag for been the raddest mag in SA and punting heavy shit like us, Josh Shroeder at Random Awesome Recording Studio, USA and Richard Staub at Audio Militia for making this record the tits, all our Indiegogo supporters and all you patient awesome people who have been waiting a long time for our album!
