Having recently joined Monster Energy as their newest ambassador, we catch up with DJ Speedsta to chat about his Metro FM show, skateboarding and new role.

Give us some insight into your show on Metro FM?
My show s called Absolute Hip Hop, and it airs on Metro FM every Saturday night between 20:00 and 22:00. It’s a specialised show focused on Hip Hop. I am a Hip Hop DJ, broadcaster and opinion leader. I live and breathe Hip Hop.

What do you feel is the coolest thing about Metro FM?
Metro FM is cool because it speaks to the urban market. The aspiring, working-class audience.

You recently opened you own skatepark. Tell us about it?
I recently opened a skatepark called “The Skate Hub,” an indoor skatepark in Johannesburg. It’s always been a dream of mine to open up my own skatepark. The opportunity came, and I took it with both hands. The skate scene in Johannesburg needed an indoor park.

When did you get into skateboarding?
I first got on a skateboard in Grade 2 at 8 years old. Nowadays, I do most of my skateboarding in Johannesburg, either in the city or at the local parks we have around the area.
I’ve taken some hard slams before but have never broken anything, mostly just dislocations. I used to throw myself as a kid, but I’m a lot more relaxed now. I skate to my abilities, as it is just a hobby. No pressure whatsoever.
