Comeback Kid set to tour South Africa
For anyone unfamiliar with Comeback Kid, give us some insight to the band and your sound?
Well we started jamming in 2000, brought out a demo in 2001 and started playing some local shows that year and we kind of got things rolling that way. We put out our first record “Turn It Around” in 2003 and pretty much started touring full time then. We have now put out a total of 4 records with a 5th coming out in March of this year. As far as our sound goes we pretty much play our take on the hardcore punk thing with various other influences from metal, rock etc.

What are you looking forward to most during your South African tour?
I guess just seeing the country for the first time and playing some shows in a country we’ve never been to before. We have done a lot of international touring up to this point so it’s pretty cool to play a to fans that have not had the chance to see us before.

What are you expectations of South Africa and your tour here?
I try not to have too many expectations going in to a place we’ve never played before but based on some of the messages we’ve received on Facebook, Twitter and so on it seems people are stoked we are making the effort to come out to place we’ve never been to before so I guess we’re just excited to be a part of something fun and exciting in the South African hardcore scene.

How did the tour to SA come about?
Well its almost happened a few times in the past but this time it’s for real. Things finally fell into place. The booking agent bringing us out reached out and asked if we were interested in a South African tour, of course we were, so we just found a time period that worked for both of us and now it’s right around the corner.

Have you had the chance to hear the two SA bands that will be opening for you, Truth and its Burden and Reason To Live? If so, what do you think of them and what do you think they will do for the overall show?
I have heard a bit and as always it’ll be cool to check out some of the local bands in the scene in their country and the exciting hometown shows. For the overall show I’m sure they have their own fan base so it will be cool seeing their fans come out to support them and the show in general.

Give us an idea of what your stage presence is like and what fans can expect at your shows?
Our stage presence eh? Well, hmmm. I guess we kind of just do our own thing [laughs]. We jump around some, scream in the kids faces and compete for stage space if there are stage divers or stage potatoes [laughs]. Having fun is the key, so whether it looks cool or dorky isn’t the focus, we just enjoy playing the kind of music we do and feed off of the crowd

Which parts of SA are looking forward to playing at the most?
Well I guess this goes back to the other question and the expectations we may or may not have. Not really sure which parts we most looking forward to play having never been there before. I may have a better answer for you after the tour but perhaps just not in print [laughs].

What is the vibe like between the band members during one of your tours?
We hang some but also just do our own thing a lot of the time too. I think it’s important to give everyone their space when you’re on the road for years but that’s not to say we don’t have our fun together too.

South African music fans can be happy the the Comeback Kid tour is around the corner
If we were as a fly on the wall during your tour, what would we experience?
You’d be like ‘Wow! You guys are way more boring than I thought you’d be’ [laughs]. I think that some people think bands are always partying and raging all of the time but we’re a pretty chilled bunch but that being said, we do have a little party in us.

Any shout outs and words for your fans before you get here?
We are very excited about finally coming to South Africa and really appreciate everyone working to make this tour happen and all of the people supporting the shows so that more hardcore bands will be stoked to make the trip as well. See you all soon!
