Brochella’s first festival made its debut on the 15th of April 2017 at Rumours Rock City in Johannesburg. Considered one of the best venues in the country consisting of two stages with loads of space and great sound, Rumours Rock City was transformed into a festival landscape hosting Brochella Festival. A special Margarita Bar was setup and there was the Brochella burgers and pizza to keep everyone’s stomachs lined for the day.

Ten bands across two stages was on the menu for the day. Starting on the main stage was the pop folk act, Faz And The Firecrackers who definitely put on a show with their costumes and eclectic array of instruments and decor. Friends Like Thieves delivered a thumping pop punk set consisting of many favourites by Alkaline Trip and Blink 182. As the sun started to set, The Just brought some hard rock madness to the second stage followed by the up and coming band, The Ceramics, who paid ode to their heroes, Shortstraw, on the main stage.

The Cosmic Strange from Pretoria delivered a psychedelic rock set that set a great tone for the night. Rockers, State Society set the main stage alight. At about this time, Brochella MC Glen Bo took the mic and added some rad humour to the whole event. I AM is a band that no one should ever miss, the quartet was one of the highlights of Brochella and they really put on a show that electrified the venue.

Following I AM was the legendary Lonehill Estate. What can be said about this band. The humour, antics and great crowd interaction is what makes them one of the most entertaining acts in the country with frontman Nathan Ro commanding the crowd constantly. Southern rockers, Jasper Dan, brought an intense and rocking set that left everyone sweating on the dancefloor. These guys have really come up in the music world since they opened for Iron Maiden last year. Closing the night was Shutup! It’s Sunday. The 6 piece neo rock band has been killing it all over the country and were the perfect way to cap off a successful debut event for Brochella.

Many more things are to come from Brochella and judging from this first event, those things will be big!
