After 18 000 votes were received over the past two weeks of close South African music online competition, Al Bairre, the indie symphonic rock band, came out victorious and will “Open The City” at the much anticipated Vodacom In The City.
They will open for the international line-up of alt-J, Boys Noize, The Hives and Skunk Anansie on the 4th October at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Joburg.
The nominated bands that fought it out through public votes to “Open The City” were Al Bairre, Aztec Sapphire, Beatenberg, aKing and Monark but in the end it was Al Bairre who racked up the most votes and scores the chance to open for the international acts as well as get flown to Cape Town to perform for the 15 000 fans that will be attending Rocking the Daisies.
Al Bairre created a bunch of DIY routes enticing fans to vote for them. So get yourself to Vodacom In The City and check out what one of the most talked about bands in SA at the current moment will have up their sleeve.
