For decades aspiring South African Motocross racers have set their sights on the world stage, chasing the dream of becoming a World Champion. This dream became a reality in 1988 when Greg Albertyn blazed the trail, inspiring a generation of young riders from the small but passionate country at the southern tip of Africa. Albertyn’s success was followed by Grant Langston in 1998 and Tyla Rattray in 2008, proving that South Africa has the talent to compete with the best in the world.

Today South Africans are once again searching for their next Motocross World Champion. With several promising riders already making waves internationally, the future looks bright. However, the road to success in Motocross is far from easy. Despite the immense talent in South African junior Motocross, the sport is not considered mainstream, nor does it offer the financial stability and exposure of other professional sports. As a result, many talented young riders are forced to abandon their dreams, either due to financial constraints or misguidance within the industry.
Some aspiring racers attempt to follow in the footsteps of their idols, only to find that their financial projections fall drastically short of the real costs involved. Others fall victim to empty promises of sponsorship and support, leading to heartbreak and financial strain. Tragically, several top South African motocross talents have been forced to walk away from the sport altogether, unable to shoulder the heavy financial burden of competing on an international level.

This is where 2 Wheel Development comes in…
2 Wheel Development was founded with a clear purpose: to give young South African Motocross talent the opportunities and guidance they deserve. Through the dedication of passionate individuals, sponsors, and teams, we are leveraging valuable relationships to provide the support these riders need to succeed.
Our mission is twofold:
First, to equip young athletes and their families with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their International racing options.
Second, we are actively seeking sponsors to help alleviate the overwhelming costs associated with competing abroad.
The challenges South African riders face are immense: VISA complications, gruelling travel requirements, maintaining their education, and the daunting reality of racing against world-class competition – competition that simply cannot be replicated in local events. These hurdles can discourage even the most talented riders from reaching their full potential.
2 Wheel Development believes that South Africa has a lot more to offer to the International Motocross scene, and want to see young riders dream big, work hard, and surpass all expectations. They want to create an environment where talent thrives, where financial barriers are broken down, and where South Africa’s next Motocross legend can emerge.
