Introducing Kimberley Klopper, a High School English Teacher, as our LW Babe of the Week…
We know where your minds are going with this, and you can thank us later (fist bump). We get to know more about the gentle and sultry Kim below.
Full name: Kimberley Klopper
Hometown: Randburg, Johannesburg
Day job: High School English Teacher
Likes: Fitness, food and fun
Dislikes: Liars and celery – both are gross [laughs]
Special talents: Baking, cooking and managing 35 energetic teenagers while trying to teach them the joys of literature
Give us a quick introduction to Kim?
I am a gentle, life-loving individual who is excited by the adventure the world has to offer. In the same breath, I am exhilarated by the strength within me when it comes to things that I am passionate about.
What drives you?
The ability to add value to other people’s lives by developing and improving myself.
Give us a rundown of what a day in your life usually consists of?
Wow, I am up early for breakfast and out of the house to get to work. I teach Grade 9 to 11 from 07h30 – 14h30 every day. After school, I either host extra lessons or coach girls’ softball or cross-country (depending on the season). From school, it’s me time – I train for anything between an hour/ hour and a half. From the time I get home, it’s meal-prep, shower and sleep. Oh and a lot of eating between all of those things.
How much has that changed under the current lockdown situation?
A lot! My job is extremely physical as I stand for most of the day and I am constantly surrounded by people. I am now teaching from home, sitting at a desk. The gyms are also closed which means I’m having to make the most of home workouts but I am extremely blessed to still be able to work and move my body.
What do you feel the future of the world is going to be like after this pandemic?
I do not think things will ever go back to normal and I am not entirely opposed to that. We should be more mindful of our impact on one another, be more open to helping one another and refocus on what is truly important – sincere relationships and connections.
What have you found has helped you to stay positive during this time?
Training – without a doubt – it is one or two hours of the day that I can focus on one thing and one thing only. I have also chosen to be very specific about what I absorb. Fake news, negative people and panic will only consume you and make this time tougher.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
I never wear matching socks – don’t ask me why, I just don’t.
What does the fitness lifestyle mean to you and how strict are you on yourself?
The fitness lifestyle is different for everyone. I do not believe that fitness has a ‘look’ or criteria. I believe fitness is improving yourself through sport, a physical challenge and a healthy relationship with food while understanding proper nutrition. When I prep for shows, I am rather strict as I know what I need to do to achieve my desired goal. During off-season, I am a little more relaxed, incorporating things I enjoy or couldn’t have during prep but still stick to the larger plan as best I can. I mean, nobody says no to a good cheesecake!
What are some of your favourite workouts and why?
Deadlifts – I enjoy being able to see my strength increase when doing deadlifts and learning the complexities of the form required to do it properly.
Lat pulldowns and seated rows – training my back makes me feel tall and strong.
Skipping – it’s just a fun way to increase your heart rate while not feeling like you’re putting in too much work.
What is your idea of sex appeal?
I think the term has some negative connotations depending on how people perceive it but I believe that having sex appeal means to be completely and utterly confident in your own skin, body and beliefs regardless of how that changes over time. Having sex appeal is about knowing what you have to offer and valuing that worth.
When it comes to guys, what type grabs your attention?
A good sense of humour! Things around us and within us are constantly changing and that can become quite overwhelming but if you have someone who knows when to be serious and when to be silly and light-hearted, then you are winning.
If you had the opportunity to do one thing you’ve always wanted to do, what would it be?
Travel! I have never travelled overseas (I know, right?!), so I would love to take a few months off and just experience what the world has to offer.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we mention:
Intriguing? Learning new things.
Gruelling?Identifying your weak points and working on them (not as easy as it sounds).
Cheat meal?Sushi or fig and gorgonzola pizza (YUM!).
Turn on?A gentle manner.
Turn off?Ego and smelly breath.
