Driven, talented, and outright attractive! Presenting Jocasta Durr and her LW Babe of the Week interview below.
Full name: Jocasta Durr
Day job: Student at Stellenbosch University studying LLB law
Likes: Absolutely adore genuine people who can laugh at themselves and appreciate the little things in life
Dislikes: Ignorance and arrogance is one of my pet peeves for sure.
Special talents: I’m a singer and songwriter, so I’d say that coming up with a melody in minutes is a pretty cool talent I have. I also play guitar and have a pretty impressive photographic memory
Give us a quick introduction to Jocasta?
I am an extremely bubbly, balanced and well rounded human and, my goodness, do I love a good laugh. I am extremely outgoing and love throwing myself into anything that I do. I am extremely adventurous and spontaneous. One thing that I love about myself is my ability to adapt to any situation I’m in, and never ever give up.
How would you best sum up the year 2020?
I actually found 2020 to be incredibly positive. I loved spending time with my family and focusing on my work. 2020 for me was a year of growth in all areas of my life, and taught me to value every day, you simply never know when your life can change.
What does a day in your life usually consist of?
I love to break up my day to pay tribute to every part of me. I think it’s so important to make sure your day is balanced. My days have to include some delicious healthy food and snacks, exercise, work, a creativity slot in which I usually sing, draw or do some special projects like gardening and baking or even designing some clothes! Then before I go to bed I have to take some time for self care, a face mask, maybe a bath with some bath salts I made, some meditation and prayer time, then a good nights sleep. It seems like a lot, but when you actually divide your day and prioritise the things that feed your soul and body in every aspect you’ll realise it’s actually so easy.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
Hmm I’m a pretty open book for sure so this is pretty hard, but I guess most people don’t know that I have three sisters, so best believe my EQ is off the bloody charts [laughs]!
When did you first find your passion for singing and where would you like to see it take you?
I have actually sung since I can even remember, I think I realised my passion so early on. I am the youngest by 10 years from my sisters, so I spent a lot of time playing alone, and I found myself making up songs about absolutely everything and I sang 24/7, I still do. I hope one day to release my own song, I think my words could really touch people’s hearts. I don’t think I would pursue it full time, because I would hate to turn my passion into work, I sing because it’s my escape and that’s how I want it to stay!
If you could collab with any local and/or international artist, who would it be and why?
Oh my word this is hard, locally I’d adore to collab with Matthew Mole and internationally, Jacob Banks or Mumford and Sons – their voices and music touch my soul to my core. I could only hope one day I could make people feel the way they have when I listen to their music.
What drives you?
My future. I just know I’m going to go far, I am so competitive (with myself) and just want what’s best for me and my future family. I want my kids to know their mama grafted her ass off to get to where she is, and I’m going to make that a reality.
What would your ultimate getaway weekend entail?
Ah! A camping trip in the bush. I’ve been a bush baby from the start so getting dusty and immersing myself in nature is my natural habitat. Some sundowners under an African sun, special moments by the campfire under the stars, what more could you want?!
Who is your celebrity crush?
[Laughs] Definitely my boyfriend. I’m his biggest fan for sure, so a celeb, in so many ways, in my eyes.
What is one of the craziest things you have ever done, and would you do it again?
It depends on your definition of crazy. I think swimming in the Zambezi when I was little was by far the most “crazy”, and no I have plans to do it again [laughs].
What do you enjoy most about being in front of the camera?
I absolutely adore just feeling confident. I also did drama in school, so I love trying to convey a feeling and project that feeling into the camera. I just absolutely adore being photographed, literally ever since I was little. It challenges me, and I love a challenge!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I see myself as the happiest self I can be, doing something that I’m incredible at, traveling and enjoying every minute of it.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we mention:
Bikini weather? I immediately get confused as to which bikini I’m going to wear, a stressful decision this.
Thrilling? Rollercoasters, absolutely adore the rush.
Blush? Oh my word this makes me think of all the embarrassing things I’ve done, I am so damn goofy so I blush a whole lot as you can imagine.
Attractive? Immediately I think of kindness. kindness is so damn attractive!
Hate? The feeling of being out of control, bloody hate that.
Dream? My future immediately comes to mind, going to turn those dreams into realities if it’s the last thing I do!
