Lesotho welcomes back Africa’s top Snowboarders and Skiers for Xperia Winter Whip 2016
The Xperia Winter Whip, presented by LW Mag has stamped its name on snow and snow sports in Africa. Following from the success of the previous snow competitions held at the Afriski Mountain Resort in Lesotho in 2014 and 2015, the organisers are proud to announce that this Action Sports event is back for its third season this year.
This year’s event, which again partners with Sony Mobile, will take place on Saturday, 6 August and will be hosted by the Kingdom of Lesotho at the Afriski slope. The jam-style Snowboarding and Skiing competition brings together some of the continent’s best athletes, and provides a fun-filled weekend for those participating, as well as those supporting.
The competition categories include; Pro Mens, Amateur Mens, Ladies, Juniors and Ski. Competitors will have a newly designed and laid out Kapoko Park course that consists of rails, kickers and boxes. Judges will be taking technicality, style and use of course into consideration when awarding points. Podium finishers stand in line to win cash and prizes from the various sponsors. Two lucky winners will take home an all expenses paid trip for two to Club Med Val Thorens in France from Club Med. Red Bull will also be giving away a R5,000 specialty award on the day.
Xperia Winter Whip organiser, Ryan van der Spuy says, “We are excited to be back for our third year and to showcase Africa’s top snowboarding and skiing talent. Thanks to our partners; Sony Mobile, Club Med, Red Bull, Jägermeister, Skullcandy, Neff and Ogio, we are ready to host the best event to date.”
Celebrations will continue throughout the day and into the evening with Afriski’s resident DJ and the band, The Snowcones, who will be playing at the after party at the resort’s Gondola Café.
Select footage from Xperia Winter Whip will be filmed and captured on the Sony Xperia X, sporting a 23MP main camera which includes intelligent features like Predictive Hybrid Autofocus that tracks your subject and predicts its next move so you capture every moment with the sharpest quality. The camera also features SteadyShot™ video stabilisation for shooting smooth videos and minimising any “shaky cam” effects, perfect for those tricky shots on the slopes at Afriski.
