Who will leave Gymkhana GRiD 2017 as Ringmaster?

53 drivers (23 international and 30 local) are preparing to compete at this weekend’s #AutoCIRCUS festival powered by AutoTrader featuring Gymkhana GRiD, taking place at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World on 18 and 19 November. Drivers will compete in one of two categories – all wheel drive (AWD) and rear wheel drive (RWD). Among the top contenders likely to win are RWD champion Luke Woodham and last year’s AWD winner Petter Solberg.

Woodham is a three-time Gymkhana GRiD champion, while in 2014 Norwegian-born Solberg was the inaugural winner of the FIA World Rallycross Championship after five race wins and nine podium finishes. He repeated his title success the following year. Fan favourite, Ken Block and his Hoonigan teammate Andreas Bakkerud will also be in the mix.

Yet, local drivers are expected to show their mettle, including Jason Webb, listed by Gymkhana GRiD as one of the top five to watch. Webb has won South Africa’s national SupaDrift Championship twice and is likely to be the top-placed local when the final tally emerges.

Other serious local contenders include Otto Graven and Paolo Gouveia, while the South African hopes in the AWD category involve Wayne Hay, Carl van As and Rob Inglis.

The female drivers are not excluded and will be competing head-to-head with their male counterparts. Local driver Clare Vale and Hungarian athlete Nikolett Szántó will be leading the pack.
