The finals of the Rolling Stone Rockstarter SA music competition in association with Kraken Black Spiced Rum took place last week at Mercury Live in Cape Town. Finalists, Cortina Whiplash and Ballistic Blues, battled it out in front of the judges with high intentions of taking the overall prize.
The judges where so impressed by both bands that their final decision was to award each band the winners of the 2013 Rolling Stone Rockstarter. Out of a total of 56 entries into the competition, Cortina Whiplash and Ballistic Blues where the final two that came out on top.
“Rockstarter? Well, South Africa has a bucket load of real bands, making real music. There were more than 50 bands that rocked out in the competition. Ultimately the judges couldn’t separate young blues rock prodigies Ballistic Blues and feminist punk rockers Cortina Whiplash in the final. Here’s to both bands kicking out the jams in the coming years!”said Rolling Stone South Africa’s Editor, Myles Keylock.
Being winners of this year’s competition, both bands will perform at multiple events, receive an album recording, become rock ambassadors for Kraken Black Spice Rum and be feature in Rolling Stone Magazine SA. Congrats to you both.
