The first ever Red Bull Unlocked Skateboarding contest took place this past weekend at the Moses Mabhida Staduim People’s Park, a venue that is usually prohibited to Skateboarders saw some of the country’s best Skaters gather to compete on the smooth and pristine conditioned surfaces.
After the intense qualifying rounds it was Jean-Marc Johannes, Yann Horowitz, Dlamini Dlamini, Braxton Haines and Moses Adams that made it to the final and battled it out for the win. The heated final saw the skaters land nonstop technical tricks over the stairs, rail and hub which looked to have Dlamini Dlamini and Moses Adams fighting for the win. Capetonian Moses Adams had a spectacular final run landing a Nollie Flip, A Varial Heel Flip and a Frontside Flip to take the overall win.
“We never get to skate at somewhere like this. The surface is so nice to skate on – no cracks or rocks and just so smooth,” remarked Adams. “I felt really comfortable today and just worked on getting to the finals. Dlamini was really skating well and I’m just glad I did my best and was able to win. “ Said Adams.
The Red Bull Unlocked Skateboarding event was something new and unique and gave the competitors a chance to skate a location that would normally be out of bounds. An event we hope, and are pretty sure the Skaters hope, will happen again in the near future. For now, Moses Adams has the bragging rights.
