LW Mag and Monster Energy present the King of the Whip Best Whip Contest taking place at Biker’s Warehouse, and in association with Fox, DC Shoes, VonZipper, Dirt Bike Life and Motul. On the 4th of February 2017 the country’s best motocross and freestyle motocross athletes will battle it out to see who will be crowned the inaugural King of the Whip.
A maneuver performed on a motorcycle, usually during a motocross or freestyle motocross contest, in which the rider brings the rear of the motorcycle abruptly around to either side. Performed while the machine is airborne off a jump. In very extreme whips, the rear of the motorcycle will end up perpendicular to the direction of travel, in addition to the motorcycle being laid flat. The purpose of the whip is to show off, to alter the trajectory of the bike in flight, and to scrub speed over jumps.
Proceedings are set to kick off at 4pm with the prize giving expected to take place around 8pm. Riders will be split into groups and will have to qualify through the 15-minute jam sessions. Riders will be judged on style, amplitude and variation. Riders that score high enough points will advance to the 30-minute final. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers will each win prize packages. The first place winner, or should we say – ‘King of the Whip’ – will also take home R10,000 in cash.
King of the Whip organiser, Ryan van der Spuy says, “We are excited to finally have King of the Whip stamp its name on the action sports calendar. We cannot thank our event partners enough for making this event possible and affording our top riders the opportunity to showcase their moto skills at a fun event.”
We invite everyone, families and friends, to join us in witnessing this highly anticipated, adrenaline-fuelled event. Entrance is free and there will be food and beverages on sale.
