Faz and the Firecrackers Talk Brochella

The first annual Brochella Festival is set to take place at Rumours Rock City on 15 April. We caught up with Faz and the Firecrackers, one of the many bands performing at Brochella, to talk about the festival and more.

We interview Faz and the Firecrackers about Brochella Festival

Give us some insight into the band and its members?
Faz and the Firecrackers started out in 2012 as a bunch of friends, who love music and entertaining people. We have Farrell West on lead vocals and random craziness, Courtney Cragg on the electric double bass and Morne Klein on percussion and vocals who make up the core of the band.

How would you best explain your sound and genre?
It’s best if you take a listen and decide for yourself. We would say pop, folky fun is our genre. We like to keep things original and sounding unique.

What have been some of your highlight performances?
We played at splashy fen! That was pretty amazing, to share a stage that so many others have performed on was quite the honor. We also played with The Graeme Watkins Project at their birthday bash, those guys are legends.

If you could play any show/ gig/ festival in the world, which would it be?
Boom…Brochella but the real one, Coachella. We would love to live life inside of a festival. So any festival would be amazing.

Which local band would you like the opportunity to collaborate with?
His name is Matthew Mole, Faz becomes a bit spaz around that guy and his talent.

Where do you get your inspiration?
We write songs based on random things that we encounter, feeling ugly, getting robbed and obviously falling in love. Music is inside us and that’s what inspires us (insert cheesy face).

What is a day in the life of the band like?
We have our own recording studio at Redark Studios, so that keeps us busy. We also have sad everyday jobs. So everyday we’re shuffling.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Brochella Festival?
We think it’s amazing that South Africans can express and experience live music through festivals. So we are amped!

Which of the bands on the lineup are you looking forward to seeing at the festival?
State Society ‘cos they smell nice. Lonehill Estate because they are as weird as us.

What can fans expect from you at Brochella?
We will bring our blow up Frankenstein, he’s always keen for a little bit of a dance and a kissy kiss. But fans can expect bubbles, surgical gloves, origami birds, glitter and fun.

What would be your main reason not to miss Brochella?
The couch is not your friend, get up and dance with us.

Any shout-outs?
Shout out to Redark Studios, Greg Cragg and Kyle Black for all of their support and hard work. And to our moms of course.
