‘An Evening with Myles Kennedy’, the title of the show was exactly what fans got. AMP events announced in December 2017, that rock legend Myles Kennedy would be gracing our shores for the start of his world tour for two shows in March 2018.
Saturday 10th of March arrived with the stories and photos of the Cape Town show, fans made their way to Snor City’s new and impressive venue, Sun Arena at Time Square Casino.
Going to a rock show (even an intimate one) is always an interesting journey and experience. People you never expected to be there, the people you knew you’d run into, and lets not forget the undying fashion choices of favourite band shirt + camo cargo shorts. A little strange for an acoustic performance, but you’ve stuck by it always.
AMP Events wasted no time in getting the show going. Owner and main man, Andy Mac, walked out onto stage and announced his vision with his company and type of artists he plans on bringing out. He then introduced Myles, and within seconds, the best rock singer out there is a few meters in front of packed out seated crowd.
Myles dives straight into showing his power, intentions, and bringing emotions out from all attending with his solo song ‘Devil On The Wall’ and Slash track, ‘Standing in The Sun’. Followed closely by ‘Before Tomorrow Comes’ by Alter Bridge. An array of different songs flowed from his setlist choice. Each song having a story behind it, and a personal story attached to them. A close look into a rockstar’s mind.
‘Traveling Riverside Blues’, a Robert Johnson song that landed in Myles’ set came with a heart felt story of his life growing up, moving from away from Boston after his farther had passed away, and that particular song playing on the radio multiple times on his journey to start a life in a new city.
Going slightly off book for his encore. The crowd begged and chanted for Myles to play his rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ by Lenard Cohen. He gladly agreed, and begged the crowd “If it’s bad, it doesn’t go online. It’s just for you here tonight.” What an absolute treat it was. Flawless, emotive, and a moment that described “An Evening with Myles Kennedy”.
Thank you AMP Events for an amazing performance. We look forward to the next.
