DarkFEST 2018 Week 3 Build Update

The DarkFEST 2018 course is nearly complete! The guys have been working amazingly well with the diggers and with a few tiny sprinkles of rain, some spade work, have managed to compact most of the line.

At the beginning of the week Nico Vink, Sam Reynolds and Clemens Kaudela worked hard on the course, compacting and cleaning the jumps. The rakes then came out to clean everything between the jumps and get it ready for the rain that was forecast. As usual the clouds came, made everything look nice and stormy, sprinkled a few drops and moved further East before unloading tonnes of rain. So, with not much water to soak in the guys got to work with the spades before it all dried up.

With more rain forecast for the end of the week the guys got everything ready. While waiting they enjoyed some time on the farm’s trails and the big line at Hellsend Dirt Compound, joined by with Downhill MTB riders Andrew Neethling and Brendan Fairclough, as well as a few locals.

The rain finally came but disappeared just as quickly. Luckily it was enough to get the line good enough to test ride. The top of the line features loamy dirt, but it held together well on all the berms and shark fins. The road gap is intimidating with ta blind landing, but the guys made friends with it quickly. The first jump was built shorter for testing and the guys managed to get speed just by dropping in from the road. With everything running perfect Sam and Nico got a few jumps in before dark and cleared the long-and-low before the hip too.

The next morning Clemens joined in for a quick test. The line was drier, harder and faster, forcing the riders to speed check, and enabling them to move the lip back to where they wanted it.
That wraps up week 3 and we’re looking forward to lots more riding!!!
