Following the success of the The 2010 expedition,  Coast 2 Coast 4 CANSA looks set to embark on their 2011 adventure this may. The 2011 campaign revealed on World Cancer Day that this year’s Coast 2 Coast will include 4 jet ski pilots, four motorbike riders and a border-to-border gruelling trip across South Africa which will include an inland route. The duration of the fundraising mission will be 1 month, from mid-May to mid-June.

Last year’s inaugural Coast 2 Coast 4 CANSA (C2C4C) expedition saw 6 adventurers travel almost 3000km on jet skis over the entire coastline of South Africa in order to raise funds and awareness of cancer and CANSA. The event was a huge success, generating over R600 000 and spreading messages of early detection and possible prevention in the fight against cancer.

A new FotoFinder skin screening machine was purchased by CANSA with the proceeds of the 2010 fundraising efforts. The Fotofinder machine aids in the identification of high-risk melanoma spots and early detection of skin cancer. 2011’s World Cancer Day was “Together We Are Stronger” and with CANSA celebrating it’s 80th anniversary this year, is would definitely seem so. While the 2011 edition of the C2C4C campaign will once again be headed up by Russel Symcox it will incorporate a few new faces and added elements of fundraising and awareness strategies.

Additionally, C2C4C 2011 has the honour of forming part of CANSA’s 80th year celebrations, as well as being included as one of CANSA’s coastal national projects. One of the dynamic new elements that have been added to the winning C2C4C formula is the introduction of a motorbike team and vehicle support crew. With the additional terrestrial support, the aim is to reach more inland areas and include more visits to cancer clinics and support facilities as well as CANSA offices.

Another innovative step aimed at extending the footprint of the campaign to inland regions is that the C2C4C Jet Ski crew is hoping to complete the final leg of the expedition across the Vaal Dam and down a section of the Vaal River.
