The second edition of the popular BOS Cape Crown presented by Billabong surfing contest returns to Long Beach in Kommetjie this weekend (21-22 May). 110 surfers will be competing in the event, which features a WSL QS1000 for Pro Junior Boys and Girls and a 3A rated South African Surf Tour event for the U12 Boys, U14 Boys & Girls and U16 Boys & Girls divisions.
The BOS Cape Crown is the only national surfing event taking place at Long Beach and is already a step up from last year’s event with the addition of QS1000 Pro Junior Divisions and forms part of the Billabong Junior Series.
As a further incentive the WSL and Surfing South Africa have put up a total prize purse of over R50 000.00. Valuable SA Surf Tour and WSL ratings points, special BOS Cape Crown trophies and commemorative medals for the four finalists in each of the seven divisions will be presented at the Awards ceremony.
The QS1000 Boys and girls divisions have attracted a star studded entry from all parts of South Africa and with so much at stake U18 Boys ratings leaders Jake Elkington, Adin Masencamp, Koby Oberholzer and Max Elkington, and U18 Girls ratings leaders Kayla Nogueira and Sophie Bell will not be able to rest.
Competitors in the SA Surf Tour – U12 Boys, U14 Girls and Boys and U16 Girls and Boys Divisions are all just as competitive as the QS Pro Juniors, so this weekend’s 50 or so heats should provide plenty of action.
