Leading up to the biggest Skateboarding event of the year, Kimberly Diamond Cup, the Boogaloos Grand Slam competition headed to Cape Town for an epic contest that took place in the food court area of the Canal Walk shopping center. With some of the country’s best skateboarders competing for the R50 000 prize purse as well as the wild card entry into the Amateur Street Skating comp at the Kimberly Diamond Cup.
Over 80 skates gathered to compete on the rad street course setup. It was a close match up in the pre teen division with Enwin Gelant’s Crooks to Backlip on the flat-bar putting him in 3rd place, Alistair Links’ flawless flow earning him 2nd and Tyler Kammies’ Flips, Varial Heels and an array of other tricks seeing him take 1st place and the R4000 prize purse.
The advanced division skaters threw down hard for the chance at the R10 000 prize purse and a slot into the Kimberly Diamond Cup Amateur Street Skating comp. Firing through with high speed Front Blunts, Feebles and a Gap to Front Boardslide on the flat-bar put Alan Marola in 3rd place overall. Dlamini Dlamini’s Backside Noseblunts and Switch 180’s to 5 – 0 down the hubba earned him 2nd place. Moses Adams dominated with a huge bag of tricks consisting of a Kickflip Melon to Flat, a Switch Nosegrind Revert and Switch Lipslide down the handrail, a Nollie 270 to Frontside Boardslide and more which saw him take the overall win and the wildcard entry into the KDC.
