Beach Bums again played host to the Quiksilver Off The Lip Movember Surf Jam. The event saw surfers of all ages gather to relive the glory days of 70’s surf style, and for the good cause of creating awareness and raising funds for the Men’s Foundation.
Retro surfboards, short boardies, moustaches and old school rock tunes were the order of the day. Competitors rode original surfboards from the 70’ and 80’s in six-man heat with traditional beach starts. Surfers were judged on style and unique approach to the waves ridden.
Three time event finalist, Chris Leppan impressed the judges with styling and flowing surfing to take the Open Men’s win, beating Lee Bisset. Other finalists that stood out on the day included Mikey Venter, Josh Redman and Andrew Banks.
The Legends division saw a hotly contested final between JJ Jones and Grant Gilmore. Gilmore posted high scores with his silky smooth style to take the title, winning himself a year’s supply of Flying Fish beer.
The Ladies division represented and Christy Gilmore narrowly edges out Heather Clark for the overall.
